From 1985 to 1986, David Mercer served as President of Community Associations Institute (CAI). Prior to his presidency, he served in a number of officer positions within the Institute. David's involvement since then has remained significant as a faculty member and frequent speaker. In 1994, he was elected a charter fellow of the College of Community Association Lawyers. David served a term as Dean of the College in 2005-2006. As a member of the Law Seminar faculty, he has taught numerous sessions and has recently spoken at the Law Seminar in January 2008 on the topic of ethics. On the local level, the Washington Metropolitan Chapter turned to David in 2002 to assist on developing the Chapter's relationship with the Institute, and again in 2003 to establish a discussion forum for community association lawyers. He has been given special recognition awards for his efforts in both of these areas.
David was named a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation in January, 2005. He was recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for Real Estate from 2005 through 2011, was named to Virginia Business Magazine's Legal Elite in Real Estate/Construction in 2004, Business Law in 2005, Civil Litigation in 2006, and in Pro Bono in 2007, and Virginia Super Lawyers in Real Estate in 2008 and 2009. David also named to the first class of recipients of Leaders in the Law in 2006.
Like David, Pia Trigiani is a charter fellow of the College of Community Association Lawyers, and a member of the CAI faculty. She served as President of the Washington Metropolitan Chapter of CAI in the year 2000. Pia has also served as Chair of National CAI's Government and Public Affairs Committee for the past five years. She was appointed to CAI National's Nominating Committee in 2007, and serves on the Board of the Foundation for Community Association Research. Her work in the Institute has been recognized on both the local and national level and she has been the recipient in 2001, CAI National honored her with the Rising Star Award. She has been the recipient of the Washington Metropolitan Chapter Educator of the Year award six times, and the President's Award twice.
Pia has been recognized in Best Lawyer in America for Real Estate Law from 2006 through 2010. She was also selected to be included in the annual Virginia Super Lawyers list in 2006 and 2009, and she was included in 2007 Washington Super Lawyers list. Pia was appointed in August 2008 by Governor Timothy M. Kaine to serve on the newly created Common Interest Community Board. She was elected the Board's first chairman in September 2008 and continues to serve in this capacity.
In January 2011 Pia was named president of the Virginia Bar Association, the largest voluntary bar association.
The firm's six attorneys are active members of the American Bar, Virginia Bar and Alexandria Bar Associations. They also hold leadership positions with the Community Associations Institute by serving on the legislative, publications and community relations committees for the Washington Metroppolitan Chapter. Additionally, Virginia Super Lawyers listed Michele Mulligan in the 2009 - 2011 editions and named Jeremy Moss a 2010 Rising Star. Three attorneys have attained an A-V rating - the highest rating provided by Martindale-Hubbell.
